Cigar Girl is based on a photograph by acclaimed fashion photographer Helmut Newton. Over the past couple of years my creative focus has been on expanding and adding to the theory and concepts of appropriation by using iconic contemporary photography as my source material. I am transforming these images that, in their own time, helped blurred the lines between photography and high art. My intention is to allow the viewer to experience these images, once mechanically produced, as broken down and reformed into master-like large scale paintings.
