The ring finger is said to possess medical abilities in the folklore of many cultures, as it was once believed to be directly connected to the heart. It is for this reason that a wedding ring is traditionally worn on this finger. The hands of three women sew masks onto one another''s ring fingers, to hide them or perhaps render them useless. My drawings start with images of people and objects as real as I can make them, or as real as they appear to me.  By manipulating elements that define their specific identity, I can reintroduce them as symbols that participate in a greater sense of identification.  Showing only pieces and integrating them to form a partly-defined but believable picture mirrors the way we create individual and collective realities.
