Artist statement
The pink color and girls are very essential components of my art works. To me, they stand an in-between state (ambiguity); between white and red, girl and woman, the mundane and the exceptional, fantasy and reality, and East culture and Western culture. Also, those two factors are reflecting my deep desire and fantasy for the beauty which I have dreamt since I had played with my Barbie doll having blonde hair, blue eyes and plastic pink shoes. My photographic work series, 13 of Blondes including the key components of my works are showing the in-between-ness and, at the same time, my personal narratives intermingled with Western and Eastern idealism.
