BIO
Erik Benson is a painter working in Brooklyn, whose work deals with urban landscapes. He builds his paintings through a collage method depicting the constructed contents in his images. These paintings often portray unnoticed glimpses and moments found in the everyday urban architectural landscape.

Artist statement
My paintings are informed by architecture and landscape found in the everyday. I build my paintings using a cut and paste collage method. Paint is poured onto a glass table. It dries and is cut into shapes, and collaged to create the forms and structures in my work. I am interested in the mimetic relationship between the architectural subjects in the paintings and the process in which they are produced. I’m interested in how this construction process allows in a painting vocabulary an exploration of unexamined things.
