Esquire magazine says, "Jim Riswold is a legend in the advertising world. He's the reason you know that Bo knows. He's the reason you are Tiger Woods. He's the guy who paired MJ with Mars. He's the guy who paired MJ with a rabbit. Jim Riswold is one of the best copywriters ever." After being diagnosed with leukemia in 2000, Riswold quit advertising five years later to become a full-time contemporary artist, going from "a career of selling people things they don't need to making things they don't want." Riswold's photographs have been shown in galleries throughout the the Northwest and hang in permanent collections of several museums. Riswold calls his work "absurd realism." Others call it "a black hole sucking the life out of everything."
