Travel, photography, photography, travel...they go hand in hand for Richard. His idea of a trip is to go to the furthest parts of our globe. Having traveled to the Galapagos Islands, Fiji, all throughout Asia, the Middle East , Africa and other remote areas of the world, he has seen how others live. Appreciating the ancient as well as modern architecture, his photographs capture the vision of a true travel photographer. Taking the time to scout out the shot before it is taken, Richard transports us to the location as if we are there with him. Richard specializes in Tilt Shift photography. By stringing together contemporary meanings in the focused layer and juxtaposing them against the century old buildings, Silver creates new, complex relationships. He offers the viewer an artistic perspective on the world that the viewer can intellectually or sensually assume in his everyday world or transport on journeys through the wide world. When asked why he depicts the figures almost disproportionately small, he answers philosophically: “[Because] we are. In the big picture we are just a small blip of what the world truly is.” Life is said to be too short, every artist has goals and his is to “X” off as many places around the world until he runs out of places to see or runs out of time.
