Tian Taiquan 田太权
BIO
Born 1960 in Chongqing, Tian Taiquan graduated from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1988. Tian’s photographs investigate Chinese contemporary society through the use of imagery that confronts metaphysical issues of life and death. Tian frequently incorporates China’s rich culture and history within his photographs. This link between past and present is intended to draw attention to the issues of present day Chinese society. Tian also imparts Chinese notions of aesthetics and beauty within his work.

Artist statement
From his early series ‘Traces of Civilization’ through to his more recent work ‘Totem Recollection’, the viewer is given an intimate snapshot of various historical and social issues that inspire Tian.
