The subject's "gaze" is a vital part of portraiture. In this series I'm interested in combining the beauty and seduction of the gaze with the idea of infectious disease. I find the idea that during the outbreak of an infectious disease, there is nothing more dangerous than another human fascinating. By combining a confrontational style of portraiture with this subject matter, I think the space between the viewer and and portrait becomes activated in an interesting way. Does the subject wear a mask to protect herself from the viewer? Or should the viewer be wary of the portrait?

I created these digital paintings, specifically for the format of Artstar's high-quality prints taking into careful consideration the method and media in which they will be printed.
