This weekend I was lucky enough to visit the Pollock-Krasner House & Study Centre in Springs, New York, near East Hampton. The house and barn where Jackson Pollock and Lee (Lenore) Krasner worked has been lovingly preserved and it worth a visit if you're out on that part of Long Island. The best part if undoubtedly the barn, where assiduous visitors can exchange their shoes for booties and wander around on Pollock's paint splattered floor. It's an amazing and gives the visitor a true sense of the artist's working process.
I am reminded of this quote by Pollock: "On the floor I am more at ease. I feel nearer, more part of the painting, since this way I can walk around it, work from the four sides and literally be in the painting." And also:" The modern artist... is working and expressing an inner world - in other words - expressing the energy, the motion, and other inner forces."
