ATLANTIC WALRUS

by BRENDAN WENZEL

ATLANTIC WALRUS

With my images I strive to cultivate fascination and excitement for the natural world and its inhabitants. Many of the species I choose to depict are threatened or lesser known creatures.

Though more widely recognizable than most species which appear in my work, the Atlantic Walrus was an animal I felt deserved a closer look. This charming marine Mammal lives in large groups in the shallow waters off Canada and Greenland, where it dines on bottom dwelling organisms such as clams and sea urchins. The animals tusks, perhaps its most distinguishing feature, are used not only for fighting and dominance displays, but also for maintaining ice holes and digging in the undersea muck for snacks.
