TOP KNOT 1

by ELIZABETH MAYVILLE

ELIZABETH MAYVILLE

"All of my work has something to do with the idea of 'home' and the temporary comfort that it provides. Though not a self-portrait, Top Knot 1 reflects the persistent quiet I experience as a person who spends most of her time alone working in a home studio. A familiar house and the objects within can have both a calming effect and, if enough time is spent there, a thick, all-encompassing serenity. The everywoman depicted in Top Knot 1 is definitely in a motionless space brimming with silence." - Elizabeth Mayville

Whether it be a still life of very personal items or a local landscape, each painting has a quality that makes the artist feel both comforted and anxious.
