THALIA

Fine art abstract painter Lesley Anderson is inspired by the language of her materials, often dripping and pouring onto surfaces before adding shapes with drawing and painting. She employs a diverse array of methods and materials, including ink, acrylic, cutting and pasting, airbrushing, digital techniques, drawing, and projection. While her layering sometimes obscures the process, it often remains visible through and between forms. Anderson's work frequently evokes figures, landscapes, and narratives, exploring form and color to build an inventory of her visual vocabulary and memory.

About the Piece

Lesley Anderson is a distinguished artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Vancouver’s Emily Carr University of Art and Design, as well as a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from Concordia University in Montreal. Now based in vibrant Austin, Texas, Lesley’s journey began near Toronto, Ontario, and flourished on British Columbia’s captivating west coast. Her impressive career has been marked by numerous prestigious residencies and awards, including the coveted 2015 Tom Hopkins Graduate Award in Painting. Her works have graced exhibitions spanning Canada, France, and China, showcasing her mastery of minimalism and gestural expression. Drawing from collage, color-field techniques, and hard-edge styles, Lesley’s art explores the intricate interplay of color harmonies, geometric forms, and organic compositions.
