"I wanted to photograph the pools to show the beauty of the architecture, while minimising the modern elements. I love the geometry of the tiles, the lines on the bottom of the pool and the typography of the signs. Since my first Poolside exhibition in 2018, I have travelled to London, Paris, Manchester and Glasgow to add to my collection. Focusing on composition, carefully using blocks of colour to show interesting shape and proportion. The eye is drawn to the architecture, then the symmetry and reflections, and finally to the models, which feels more intimate.‘Although my first collections were heavily inspired by my love of Wes Anderson's work, I’ve also been looking to other cinematic imagery from directors like Terrence Malick and Stanley Kubrick, while still keeping my signature style.’ We are so lucky to still have these beautiful old pools and maybe the photographs will remind people how lovely they are." -Soo Burnell
Growing up surrounded by Edinburgh's historic beauty, it would be hard for any photographer not be inspired by its incredible buildings. However, it was the Victorian swimming pools of her childhood that really spoke to photographer Soo Burnell, and allowed her to apply her personal style and aesthetic to shoot these iconic buildings. Taking inspiration across many art forms, from architects, artists and filmmakers, Soo’s stylised shots are reminiscent of frames from a Wes Anderson film. Using a muted colour palette throughout her work, the architecture of the swimming pools and their pastel colours work perfectly with this style. The images portray calm, still, spaces punctuated with small, perfectly formed details, each shot revealing new layers of interest. Soo’s work offers a mesmerising and nostalgic glimpse into these hidden spaces, imbued with a dreamlike quality.

Once your artwork is made by our printer, it must be allowed to outgas for 24 hours before being framed and/or shipped. ** Please note that we employ professional framers, shippers and handlers on all orders and only handle our prints with white gloves. While occasional damage by USPS or FedEx in transit is out of our control, we are happy to work with you to resolve any damage that does occur. However, damage in transit is relatively rare.
As our prints are custom made to order according to your preferences, all of our prints are final sale and non-returnable. We guarantee the quality of our prints, so if your order was shipped with a defect or arrived damaged, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

All frames include:
- UV-blocking acrylic glass, which protects against 91% of UV rays.
- Acid-free, archival mats and materials.
- Taped backs to prevent dust from getting into the frame.
- Strainers on the back to reinforce the structure of the frame.
- Wire on the back of the frame for easy installation.
- Facemounted works are hung on a metal French cleat. Installation instructions are included in the packaging.
Extra small and small frames have .75" molding 2" mats, and are 1.2" deep. Medium and large frames have 1" molding, 3" mats and are 2" deep. Mattless frames have a spacer to prevent the print from touching the acrylic.
We do not frame the extra large print sizes because they are too large to ship without risking damage.
ArtStar does not accept returns. Works damaged in transit may be exchanged on a case by case basis within 30 days of arrival. Please email us as soon as you receive the damaged work at email@example.com. Please do not open your artwork yourself. It is very delicate and difficult to get back in the packaging without damage. Please let a trained framer open the artwork. We do not take back artwork damaged by the customer.
