FRUIT ROLL UP

Austin selected the most colorful basketball courts in Manhattan and Brooklyn, bringing along his own basketballs that he felt would complement the vibrant hues of each court. He also named each image with a playful title, adding a whimsical touch to his project and inviting viewers to engage with the art and energy of the scenes.

About the Piece

Experience the world through the lens of Austin Bell, a renowned photographer, court hunter, birder, and writer from North Carolina. Specializing in basketball court photography, Austin has photographed over 4,200 courts worldwide, with a particular focus on vibrant locations such as Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, and New York City. His unique perspective captures courts from every angle—whether aerial, through fences, or right from center court—highlighting their mesmerizing colors, symmetry, and ubiquity. These images transform ordinary courts into extraordinary portraits of the places they inhabit. He has an upcoming book and solo exhibition, “Shooting Hoops,” a documentation of all 2,549 basketball courts in Hong Kong. Beyond his celebrated court photography, Austin Bell is also a passionate birder and author, with notable works including "Birding: The First Two Years," a stunning collection of bird photography. His diverse expertise extends to post-production work in Los Angeles, where he has contributed to the creation of impactful music videos and commercials.
